Bipolar: The lived experience and tools to shift from survive to thrive.
Aim: To support the participants in finding a way to relate to the lived experience of a bipolar condition as well as a framework to work with someone with it.
Learning Objectives:
- Participants will be able to identify 3 aspects of symptoms associated with a bipolar condition.
- Participants will be able to identify 3 skills or tools to teach an individual to support them in living with their bipolar condition.
Interventions: I plan to share the lived experience of my symptoms as well as the 3 step framework I use to successfully manage my condition. The 3 step process uses evidence based techniques from ACT, CBT, WRAP, OT and personal experience.
About:
Stephen Nawotniak is an Occupational Therapist and Certified Peer Specialist successfully living with a bipolar condition. Steve has written 2 books, has a YouTube channel, and created an online video course sharing the skills and tools he finds helpful in living with his condition. He is the Director of Peer Services at a state run psychiatric hospital. Steve lives and works in Buffalo, NY. USA.

As Director of Peer Services I regularly advocate for the patients and Peer perspective in the hospital that I work. I also created a YouTube channel, wrote 2 books, and created an online video course to share the skills and tools I have learned to successfully live with a bipolar condition
